iPhone's actual screen resolution in Safari - did you know?

Just discovered something interesting while looking at Google Analytics reports (see below) for http://www.cameronlaird.com and http://blog.cameronlaird.com. The 7th most used screen resolution was 320x396. Must be iPhone I thought at first but isn't the resolution 320x480? Well, I've since discovered that while the actual screen resolution of the iPhone really is 320x480 the resolution in Safari when eliminating the address bar and the navigation bar is actually 320x396. So there, something new I've learnt today!

Are you an iPhone snapper?

A colleague and I have been doing a simple "iPhone photo competition" over the past couple of months but with only the two of us involved it got a bit dull. :-(

Would love to get some more snappers involved, you only need to follow these qualifiers
  1. Photo MUST be taken on an iPhone in the standard camera app
  2. Photo MUST NOT be altered digitally in any way
  3. Email photo from the "Photos" application on your iPhone to week11lets@photos.flickr.com
  4. The subject line of your email will be the title, the body of your email will be the description.
  5. View all the pics at this 'iPhone Snapper' Flickr link (iPhone friendly link here)
  6. Couldn't be easier!
Have you come upon this post from Twitter or do you use Twitter? Would love you to retweet this by clicking this link - Follow me on Twitter here and feel free to suggest an iPhone snapping theme!
When you have sent a pic why not let Twitter know by tweeting the link to your photo and including the hashtag #iphonesnapper

The World's worst iPhone plan

Well, Telstra has done it again! Congratulations to Telstra for winning the competition for "The World's Worst iPhone Plans"!

Here are the plan prices - as a guide, my current $79 plan with Telstra gives you $550.00 of calls and I pay $29 for a data pack that gives me 80Mb of data for the month.

Now for $80 I get $70 worth of calls and $10 of data which equates to 10Mb.

So, 10Mb is ridiculous eh? Well you can opt for a data pack as per the below plans

So, if anyone can find a worse deal than this I would love to know about it. (This reminds me why I sold my damn Telstra TLS and TLSCA shares!)

What is that song - wait.... my iPhone can tell me!

The coolest hack is now available in the installer and it works like a treat.  Simply open the program, hold your iPhone near a speaker and it will tell you the artist, song and even the album that the song appeared in!  Here are a few screen grabs from my iPhone to show you a couple of the results.  (You can tell it is mine by the music and the iFartz application!)

WiFi in Townsville?

Capture

Is it just me or are we in the wifi dark ages in Townsville?  Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction because I don't know of a single coffee shop in Townsville that offers free or even paid wifi.  One caveat however - you can't count the rip-off Telstra wifi at McDonald's restaurants!

The iPhone is half going!

iPhone-Unbox-011, originally uploaded by camlaird.

Well, I have "activated" the iPhone using a bit of internet trickery however due to it having the latest baseband firmware I can't "unlock" it to use on Australian networks. However this crack is only days away so it should be up and going before Christmas........hopefully!

UPDATE / 1 JAN 2008 :  Nup, not going as a phone yet but a TurboSIM is on the way so that will definitely solve the problem!

Oh yeh, my iPhone is on the way

I'm pretty damn excited, ordered a new Apple iPhone a couple of days ago and it is winging its way from the U.S as I write this.  Hopefully my geek knowledge should allow me to successfully crack it to use on the Telstra network - I'll report back when it is done!  Bring it on!  I am sooooo looking forward to this I bet there ends up being a problem like.... I receive a box full of nothing or it is smashed or I fail at cracking it and end up turning it into an expensive paperweight!

iPhone, will it blend?

I'm a big fan of the Blendtec blender, they are a must if you plan on blending golf clubs, matchbox cars, pickled pigs feet or magnets into a scrumptious dinner treat. Interested? Click the links or head on over to http://www.willitblend.com/ for a nice boredom breaker. But they have crossed the line now - blending the latest and greatest gadget is very uncool!

iPhone TV advertisement

While I'm not a big Apple fan I must admit this is about as cool as it gets when it comes to style and function of a mobile phone. What ashame it is only 2G!
